Our Story

Like the Gospel stories that begin and end in the middle of the story, we read the Sacred Scripture in the middle of our own living story.  Each time we read or hear the story of Martha and Mary, we are in a difference place and time in our own lives.  Where are we now?  Are we ready to open the door to our heart even wider in loving embrace of Jesus' coming this moment as Martha welcomed Jesus in friendship 2000 years ago?

What never changes is that Jesus is always with us in friendship and love begging us to let go of our cares, worries, and anxieties by giving them to him.  Jesus wants to spiritually sit with us as he did with Mary 2000 years ago.  Jesus came to our earth, lived among us as friends, was killed by those who did not understand him, rose from the dead on Easter Morning to be with us forever in loving friendship.  Yes, in the eternal now, Jesus holds us and embraces us in an intimate relationship of love.

If this is truly our story, will we be Martha for each other?  Will we be welcoming Jesus whom we see in our siblings, our friends, our neighbors, our co-workers, and everyone we meet each day of our lives?  We will embrace them in love, kindness, and friendship as Jesus will if he were physically working our earth this day?  As Saint Theresa of Avila prays, we are Christ's hands and feet as he has no hands and feet but ours.  Are we Christ's hands and feet who go forth and meet each other in loving kindness?
